What does it mean to be a Psychometrist?

When I tell people I am I Psychometrist they often don't know what it is or what we do. In a very simplistic way we are a division of psychology where our sole purpose is to assess specific criteria such as; personality, motives and values, interests and cognitive proficiency with the use of psychometric tools/ assessments. We are individuals who are highly trained in the administration, scoring and interpreting of psychometric tests and instruments which are used to determine an individuals level of functioning within specific domain. From these tests we are able to delve into the "ice underneath the iceberg" and gain fuller and more comprehensive understanding of an individual and how they are likely to operate in the world on a daily basis. From this holistic picture individuals are able to make more informed decisions such as the career path they wish to follow, tertiary education they plan to pursue and right down to the subjects chosen during school. Organisations are better equipped to determine which applicant will be best suited towards the position they are hiring for, how to develop their existing teams and management as well as assess leadership potential and strategic focus for in house promotions.
